Founder of the 12 Tissue Salts

On 21 August, we celebrate the birthday of Dr. Wilhelm Heinrich Schüßler, also known as Dr. Schuessler, the founder of the 12 Tissue Salts.

Dr. Schuessler was born in Germany on 21 August 1821. He became a medical doctor and developed a strong interest in simple, natural ways to support health and wellbeing.

Through his studies, he focused on mineral salts naturally found in the body. He believed these minerals had an important role in supporting the body’s tissues and normal functions.

In 1873, Dr. Schuessler published his work and introduced a simple system based on 12 mineral salts. These became known as Tissue Salts, Cell Salts or Biochemic Cell Salts.

A Simple Approach to Wellbeing

One of the reasons Dr. Schuessler’s system became so well known was its simplicity.

Rather than using a large number of remedies, his approach focused on just 12 important mineral salts that are homoeopathically prepared, working on the intracellular level of the being.

More than 150 years after his work was first published, Tissue Salts continue to be used by people interested in complementary and natural health.

Today, we also know much more about nutrition, minerals and how the human body works than was known in Dr. Schuessler’s time.

Important: Tissue Salts are considered a form of complementary medicine and should not replace professional medical advice or treatment.

Celebrating His Legacy

This 21 August marks 205 years since Dr. Schuessler was born.

His curiosity and desire to find a simple approach to health led to a system that is still recognised around the world today.

On his birthday, we celebrate Dr. Wilhelm Heinrich Schuessler and the lasting legacy of the 12 Tissue Salts he introduced more than 150 years ago.
